The bacterial effector family of the outer protein Xanthomonas C2 (XopC2) is commonly found in plant pathogens, but also in the species Legionella shakespearei. The biochemical activity and host targets of these effectors remain enigmatic. In Xanthomonas oryzae, XopC2 expression promotes jasmonate signaling and stomatal opening in transgenic rice plants, which are more susceptible to Xanthomonas [PMID: 34531388].
