FAMILY: YrbL-PhoP_reg (PKLF000042)

Description

A protein kinase-like domain [PMID: 36526881]. PhoP protein activates YrbL proteins. It controls the expression of numerous genes involved in adaptation to low Mg2+ environments and/or virulence in various bacterial species. YbrL is suggested to engage in a loop activity with PhoP and PrmA, similar to the multicomponent loop observed in Salmonella. In this loop, the PhoP-dependent PmrD protein activates the regulatory protein PmrA. The activated PmrA then represses transcription from the PmrD promoter, which contains binding sites for both the PhoP and PmrA proteins. The expression of YrbL is induced by low Mg2+ in a PhoP-dependent manner and is repressed by Fe3+ in a PmrA-dependent manner [PMID: 36526881].
