AceK is a bifunctional enzyme that contains both kinase and ATP/ADP-dependent phosphatase activities in its unique active site. This enzyme is responsible for phosphorylating and dephosphorylating isocitrate dehydrogenase. It catalyzes the switch between the Krebs cycle and the glyoxylate bypass [PMID: 22889914].
